Camilla's Senior Year Art Show on November 5, 2001
Part of Camilla's final semester of undergraduate studies included displaying her own artwork in a gallery showing. The title of the show was "The Creation." She presented the show with another student in the Fine Arts program. Following is the Artists' Statement and some of the pieces that were included in the display.
ARTISTS' STATEMENT
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void…” Genesis 1:1-2a
"Artists have struggled from the beginnings of time to give meaning to the earthy materials they touch. As we follow God, we strive to travel in His footsteps, to live and love as He does, and to give form to the formless and content to the void. It is in the story of Creation that we see that God is the first Artist, that He has modeled the act of creating for us as a precedent. We can look at the elegant curves of the lily or the abstract pattern of the butterfly as a window into the passionate soul of God. We consider the talent which God has bestowed on us as a gift. We thank God for giving us the opportunity to express ourselves through paint, clay, charcoal, ink, and fiber. It is in the process that we find our Lord; it is here that we meditate on His Nature. We feel closest to God when we surrender to the powerful urge to create that He has placed in our hearts. So you may ask, “Why is not all your work about God?” Our reply is that implicitly it is all about God. Although we are able to create something meaningful out of clay, we are not able to create something out of nothing. Only God can do that. Therefore, we dedicate this show to Him for giving us the grace we never deserved and the chance to shine light in darkness."
